Ann Coulter swore fealty to Donald Trump a long time ago. But her desperate and brittle defense of him has revealed her dark and ugly side.

Coulter’s writings held a mocking sharpness for years. The mocking has gone. Now there’s just a razor blade, casually slicing up everything wherever it goes, little caring if she wounds friend or foe, so long as she serves Trump with the devotion one should only pay to one’s Creator.
We should have all taken heed of that when she tweeted this out a year ago.
I don't care if @realDonaldTrump wants to perform abortions in White House after this immigration policy paper. http://t.co/l7nq8gN7i5

And many did. But it wasn’t enough. Trump may have finally upset Coulter now about immigration, but it wasn’t before her new book, “In Trump We Trust,” has gone to print.
And in this new book, we find this horrific little gem.
this is an actual passage in @AnnCoulter's book!!!!!!!!!!!! pic.twitter.com/Zbvv3jOgiV

This is the incident which it refers to.
Trump attempted an explanation, but it really didn’t work well.
But it had been largely forgotten under all the other things Trump has said, until Coulter decided to offer up her own explanation of what happened.
Coulter on Trump mocking disabled reporter: He was just doing “standard retard” imitation. Not specific to reporter. https://t.co/MQKjScmOD1

Apparently no one has a definition of “standard retard.” Which means that it’s not all that standard, is it?
Dear @AnnCoulter What's a "standard retard"? Your lack of empathy is sickening. #Paid2lie4Trump. @CNN https://t.co/bpNEV0cyQ0

Ah, Trump was mocking a "standard retard", not a disabled person. That's *much* better. https://t.co/R9cqwomLGP

So, Ann, when my autistic three year old flaps his hands and jumps up and down, is that a “standard retard” move or not? Can someone please clarify it for me?
A "standard retard" God she's horrid. @TheBrandonMorse @joannarothkopf @AnnCoulter I have an autistic nephew. Is he a "standard retard" Ann?

Of course, the next question that needs to be asked is…. where is Trump supporter Sarah Palin? After all, as Caleb Howe on RedState so rightly pointed out, she took Rahm Emanuel to task for the same thing.
Hey Sarah Palin, any thoughts on the phrase “standard retard”? I mean, you and Ann are fighting on the same team, I just thought you might have some input on this. The kind of input you withheld when Trump mocked the disabled reporter. Why you, specifically, Sarah? Well because of this, dear.
Here’s what you said when Rahm Emanuel used the “R” word.
The Obama Administration’s Chief of Staff scolded participants, calling them, “F—ing retarded,” according to several participants, as reported in the Wall Street Journal.
Just as we’d be appalled if any public figure of Rahm’s stature ever used the “N-word” or other such inappropriate language, Rahm’s slur on all God’s children with cognitive and developmental disabilities — and the people who love them — is unacceptable, and it’s heartbreaking.
I’m waiting, Sarah Palin. This kind of language from an ally needs to be pointed out and rebuked even faster than it would be for a rival. After all, an ally would know better.
Ann Coulter’s casual cruelty in defending a truly indefensible Donald Trump moment is sick and vile. It displays her absolute lack of humanity when attempting to defend her chosen god against any disparagement. She defends Trump in this book the same way that she mocked others for defending Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. The pot has met the kettle, and the reflection in both is ugly. For someone who trafficks in words, Coulter used hers without conscience or thought.
Coulter commented “this could be the shortest book tour ever” if Trump doesn’t revert back to his previous stance on immigration. It could be even shorter if she’s met at every tour stop by disabled people and their families, asking for an explanation.
